Welsh School of Homeopathy

Hahnemann
Samuel Hahnemann, father of Homeopathy

Welcome

The Welsh School of Homeopathy was founded in 1995.

The School is recognised by the Society of Homeopaths.

It is located in the centre of Carmarthen, by the castle grounds. The building comprises of two teaching rooms, a clinic room, a library and computer room, kitchen and toilet facilities, plus a shop front and waiting area. There are plenty of nearby bed and breakfast facilities and a nearby car park, plus many eating places to choose from!

Carmarthen itself is easily accessible by train and by car from the M4 motorway.

Testimonials:

  • “I love the Welsh School. It beats with a fine and beautiful heart. Bill and Linda are dedicated to both the art and science of homeopathy as well as the vital and sometimes challenging processes of becoming a healer. Their commitment to student centred learning is deeply refreshing and rewarded by both committed and enthusiastic students and graduates.”

    MIRANDA CASTRO (Author & Teacher)
  • “Teaching at the Welsh school is always a delight. The ethos of the school is inspiring to everyone who comes into contact with it and inspires the students to a deep understanding and love of homeopathy.”

PETER FRASER (Author/Co-director Vancover Homeopathic Academy)
  • “I teach in many different schools in the UK and abroad and the quality of the teachers and students in the Welsh School is bettered by none. It is led and nurtured by a committed team with the complementary skills of Linda Gwillim and Bill Rumble.

In a day’s teaching a teacher soon realises by the class interaction the quality of the students’ homeopathic understanding. It is obvious that the traditional principles of homeopathic philosophy, a sound materia medica and hard work are integral to the Welsh School’s curriculum. However, the remedies are not taught dryly but are seen as part of the dynamic process of nature from which they derive. Nature and man’s relationship with it in all ways, including myth, are central to a deep understanding of remedies and this School seems to embrace this more than any other, with active involvement in symbolism and legend. This is important for homeopathic understanding but also for personal development and a deeper understanding of the universal connection we share.

The School is also fantastic fun and fun is the other element which makes this School stand out. Notable are the Winter and Summer Schools, set in beautiful Welsh countryside.

When everyone, from first year student to the founding principals of the School, are all found dancing at 4 am, you know that this is not a business but a labour of love and passion. The School is important and long may it continue.”

GEOFF JOHNSON (Veterinary homeopath and teacher)
  • “The Welsh School is a very well established School which provides a very thorough homeopathic education in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The students are well looked after individually and, personally, I am always impressed with the enthusiasm and sense of adventurous exploration that the School encourages. I have been teaching there every year since the School began and always enjoy the weekends with the students. There is truly a warm ‘welcome in the hillside’ at the Welsh School of Homeopathy.”

JOHN MORGAN (Homeopath & Managing Director of Helios Pharmacy)
  • “I was very impressed by the School's ambiance and ethos and consider the 'spiral curriculum' to be both progressive and effective.

The ethos of the School appears to be one of on-going critical enquiry, in particular through experiential learning. The teaching approach was compassionate but also challenging and very learner centred. I was struck by how fortunate the students were to have such insightful and experienced core teachers. Indeed the level of independent enquiry extends beyond the criteria of a degree level course in several respects.

The drop out rate for students is very small which is a testament to its popularity with the students. Another indication of the School's success is that many of its graduates remain in practice. There is a strong community atmosphere within the School and a real sense of mutual care and respect.”

Alison Fixsen (SoH Education Consultant, extracted comments from the most recent Society of Homeopaths Liaison Visit January 2017)
  • “It was at times fascinating, magical, inspirational, and always supportive. It opened up a whole new world for me. As a student you were always made to feel as though you were an important part of the college and instead of being 'taught at' the lectures were more like a sharing of knowledge. The Welsh School is a warm friendly environment from where each individual is treated as such and the course has given me a firm platform from which I can build my Homeopathic practice.”

    L.B.
  • “I had an amazing training at the Welsh School where I was treated as and encouraged to be an individual, both as a homeopath and as a person. It also gave me the opportunity to be creative and to try things I'd never done before. Best of all however, is the sense of community the School has created and the close friendships I have made there.”

    D.H.
  • “Following homeopathic principles, the school provides a course adaptable to each individual.”

  • “The teaching at the Welsh School is creative, imaginative and fun.”

  • “The Welsh School has a strong sense of community, you never want to leave the school and you don't have to!”

What does the Welsh School offer?

We offer an education in Homeopathic Medicine to practitioner level and beyond into the realms of continued supervision and peer support.

The School’s training focuses on a process orientated approach which pays attention to the dynamics of case taking and prescribing, opens the eye of curiosity and explores the dynamics of human interaction.

To educate means literally to lead out, and this is the prime objective of the course; namely to lead out the healer within. Whilst we are aware of the academic standards necessary for good Homeopathic training, we are also aware that each student brings with them a storehouse of valuable life experience. Together we will work towards bringing that experience to fruition, enabling it to mature and thus become of real value in the community. By working in a small group we can maximise personal involvement and facilitate close working relationships between the students themselves and their teachers.

Vocation

The idea of “calling” suggests that we are already in possession of that body of knowledge and skill that makes us effective in our life’s purpose.

Vocation is not so much to do with what is learned – rather it is developed and followed.

The system of education that we follow is directly appropriate to adults in pursuit of their vocation.

Our aim is to work together to continually develop the raw material, i.e. the students’ thoughts, feelings and inspirations, which are based upon a developed imagination and an already considerable volume of meaningful life experience.

Our system has been described as a “Spiral Curriculum”. This involves covering the principles and philosophy of Homeopathy in a broad sweep and then returning and deepening as time goes on, with new experiences and insights to illuminate the material.

In other words, the focus is on an organic and creative system, firmly structured and boundaried by the principles of Homeopathic philosophy, rather than the type of modular system more appropriate to secondary education in schools. Through this deepening process over the four years, our students develop a greater understanding of the art of Homeopathy and its medicines, rather than simply acquiring vast amounts of information.

In other words, we’re interested in the process of education – its fluid nature, unexpectedness and diversity rather than fulfilling criteria. This, we believe, must be the most effective way to approach issues of health and healing which are, in themselves, fluid and unpredictable.

Goethe, a contemporary of Hahnemann’s, wrote on the subject of calling:

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way”.

“Whatever you can do,
or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius,
power and magic in it.”
